Print of the Month

The "leheriya" textile art form was exclusively developed in the state of Rajasthan. This elegant craft is supposed to have been inspired by the sand dunes.

Leheriya and Bandhani are textiles made through resist dyeing, and they frequently contain striped designs that resemble chevrons or diagonals. This particular form of defiance is unique to the cities of Jaipur and Jodhpur.

The fabric is rolled diagonally and tied at regular intervals before being colored to create the ripple-like patterns. It is a constant favorite among ethnic Indian designers. Leheriya is now worn as an ornament in addition to being a piece of clothing.
